Description
We present natural spruce needle hydrolate for aromatherapy, obtained from the needles of the tree with the botanical name Picea abies. Outside the country, the liquid bears the name Spruce natural hydrolate for aromatherapy. The species belongs to the Pinaceae family, and the trees grow on land in Bulgaria. The stands are maintained naturally, without the use of chemical agents, which is why the needles reach the processing of the raw material clean. The needles are used for the extraction, while the cones and bark are set aside. Steam distillation determines the fresh course of the scent, as the aqueous phase takes up the volatile substances of the needles and retains them in the liquid. The aroma is strong and combines a fresh, resinous side with forest nuances. The resinous note comes from the resin ducts, which in the conifers of this family run through the mesophyll along the longitudinal axis of the needle itself. The color lies between colorless and pale yellow. The pale yellow tone is due to the substances that the needles release into the aqueous medium. The product is a clear liquid with a uniform appearance throughout its volume. Bornyl acetate, limonene, pinene and borneol are described among the leading volatile constituents of the needles and twigs, and they shape the fresh character of the liquid. In the aqueous phase of this species, oxygenated monoterpenes such as borneol and terpineol predominate. In addition, the finished liquid contains water and the volatile substances of the needles, while there are no added colorants or preservatives. The natural cultivation regime is reflected in the pure composition of the finished liquid. The fresh resinous tone remains dominant in natural spruce needle hydrolate.
